Grading

Students will be graded on the following:

Summative assignments are 60 % of students’ final grade.  These include: end of unit quizzes/tests, stories/essays written over a longer period of time.


Formative assignments are 40% of students’ final grade.  Assignments may include: class work,

in-class Assignment, Writer's Notebook, Writer's Workshop Habits, mini-assessments.

(points vary per assignment).

RETAKE/REDO PROCEDURE


Philosophy:  The purpose of allowing students to “redo” major assessments is to:

  • Help students achieve content proficiency (80%).

  • Encourages students in meeting proficiency the first time.

  • Provide teachers with feedback on student learning.


1.Students will have one week from the return of the assessment to redo major assessments (tests, quizzes, and projects).

  1. Students will receive a grade no higher than 80% on the redo.  

  2. An assessment can only be redone one time.

  3. Individual teachers will oversee the reassessment steps procedurally with their own students.

  4. Students are encouraged to take responsibility in communicating with teachers about retake opportunities within a timely manner and monitoring their grades via Powerschool.
